Alan McBride Thompson was born and grew up in Portland, Oregon. After he graduated from high school he went to Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon graduating in 1952. After graduating he moved to Seattle to work for the Boeing Airplane Company.

Gladys Kathleen Adams, youngest child of Russell and Ruth (VanDyke) Adams, was born in 1934 on the family farm home eight miles northeast of Broken Bow, in Garfield Township, Custer County, Nebraska. She attended the Senate Valley School through the 4th Grade, and finished school in Broken Bow, when the family moved to a farm closer to town. After graduating, she moved to Seattle, where she got a job working at the Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company as a long distance operator.

While at a dance at the YWCA, Alan and Kathleen met. They were married on December 6, 1953 in Portland, Oregon. Alan's job with Boeing took him all over the world. At various times, the family lived in Wichita, Kansas, Federal Way Washington, Johannesburg, South Africa, Naples, Italy, the Island of Java, Indonesia, and Melbourne, Australia.

Alan and Kathleen had three children:

Kenneth David Thompson Born in 1954. Kenneth married Vacharee Poolswadi and they have two daughters: Margarita Anna and Sharon Kathleen. Margarita has three girls: Breanna Ashley, Angelica Krystyne and Ciara Elaine. Sharon has two boys: Kaven Ray Jordan and Kendrick McBride Jordan.
Dale Alan Thompson Born in 1956. Dale married Tamara Lyn Seward and they had seven children: Jessica Marie, Jeremy Richard, Jenell Christine, Jeffrey Alan, Julia Kathleen, Jordan Michiel and Joshua Dale. Dale and Tamara’s marriage ended in divorce, and he later married Linda Marie Lake, a Lt. Commander in the US Navy. Linda’s two boys, Ian Morah and Eric James Blankenbijl, also joined the family. Jenell married Ward Erickson lll. Jenell is in the US Army and Ward is in the US Navy.
Sheri Thompson Born in ??. Sheri married Graham Bernard Warbreck, from South Africa.They have two children: Justin Graham and Paige Brittany. Justin married Rebecca Murray. Paige married Jason Charles Hemmings.

In her Memoirs, included in a book on family history published by her mother Ruth (updated in 2004), Kathleen documents some of the more memorable events of her life.
