Andreas (or Karl?) Leistikow (wife unknown) was born in the village of Labenz, County (Kreis) Scheifelbein located in an area of the country of Pomerania that is now part of Poland. There is some question as to his name. Researcher Clara Mathias has his name as Karl. However, according to Andreas Georg Gottfried Leistikow, great, great grandson of Andreas and Hanna, the father's name was Andreas, as were the names of the fathers for several prior generations. Perhaps the discrepancy can be explained by a second name. i.e. either Andreas Karl Leistikow or Karl Andreas Leistikow. More likely the former. It is often the case that a middle name is used to distinguish between family members with the same first name. Case in point, two sons of Andreas Gottlieb's son Johann had the first name, John. One was John August Leistiko and one was John Adolph Leistiko. They were referred to by the family as Adolph and August. I lean towards the research of Andreas, since he was born on the family farm in Labenz, is in touch with many in the family who didn't emmigrate to the Americas, and has a document referring to the name 'Andreas'.
