Shelton Township - The map shows the original 160 acres farmed by William and Dinah, the northeast quadrant of Section 8, then being owned by their son Mirabeau. Their son William Nutter Jr. owned an adjacent 80 to the west, and further west another 237 acres. The 80 just north of William Jr's 80 was owned by their son Frank, and Frank owned another 80 acre parcel just to the northeast of the home place, where they built their family home. A school is shown on the southern end of this parcel, which many Nutter kids attended. Jennie Nutter, wife of John Nutter, owned a separate 160 acre parcel about a mile south southeast of the home farm. This must have been what they called John Nutter's ‘home’ place, where first Anna lived, and then Jennie. Their husband John lived alone on his Fort Farm Island property. William Jr. also owned another 160 acre property adjoining Jennie’s to the south.
Take note of Echo Farm, owned by S.C. Bassett at the upper left. Bassett wrote the History of Buffalo County. His A PIONEER FAMILY, A HISTORICAL SKETCH OF ONE OF THE FIRST FAMILIES TO MAKE SETTLEMENT IN BUFFALO COUNTY includes a lengthy biography of the lives of William and Dinah Nutter, who were clearly his neighbors.
Platte Township - John and William Jr. also farmed acreage substantial on Fort Farm Island, and an adjacent island in the Platte River. Roughly 1,000 acres I would guess.
Shelton Township - William Jr. had sold all his property in Shelton Township in 1913. Brother John had the 80 adjoining the home place and the southern 80 of his other 237 acre parcel. Brother Frank acquired the remaining 157 acres. He sold the 160 acre parcel south of Jennie's to Lester Bayley. Mirabeau still owned the home place and Jennie Nutter still owned her 160.
Take note of Rose Hill Farm, owned by L.W. Bayley, the northeast quadrant of Section 21. Lester Bayley was the grandfather of Audrey Bayley, via his son Ray Bayley. Audrey married Darwin Nutter, son of William and Dinah Nutter's son William, Jr. Lester was a prominent person in Buffalo County. A picture of a gathering at Lester Bayley's was found in a box of pictures from the estate of R.W. Hogg in Salem, Oregon. There were many intermarriages between the Hogg's and the Nutter's.
Platte Township - Will Jr. had also sold all his property in Platte Township to U.S. Fidelity & Guaranty. John still owned his.
Chauncy Cook was a friend and neighbor of William and Dinah. He owned the adjoining 160 acre parcel north of theirs in Sheldon Township. His son Clother Allen Cook (he went by C. Allen Cook) bought some land in Platte Township, south of John Nutter's, which you see on this map in Sections 14 and 15. Apparently C. Allen Cook was also friends with R.W. "Will" Hogg, who married Jennie Nutter (William and Dinah's daughter) as several pictures were found in a box of pictures from the R.W. Hogg estate in Salem, Oregon. As far as I know, there were no intermarriages between this Cook family and the Hoggs or Nutters, so I guess they were just friends.
Shelton Township - Mirabeau had died in 1960. Now his wife Lizzie and their son Donald jointly own the home place. After John died in 1935, Jennie sold her 160 in Shelton Township to the Holtz Brothers, and moved into the small house on Fort Farm Island that John had been living in during their marriage. John’s 80 south of Frank’s 160 was sold to Dean Camp. His 80 adjoining the home place was inherited by his son Harold. Harold also had acquired a small 28 acre parcel south of his place but not adjoining. Frank had died in 1939, and Frank’s son Lyman inherited his 80 and the family home, northeast of the Nutter home place. Lyman had also acquired 160 just west of Jennie’s former 160. His brother William inherited the 80 east of the home place, and the 160 east of that.
Platte Township - There was no map available for Platte Township for 1963.
Shelton Township - No changes since 1963 in Shelton Township ownership except Harold’s 80 is now jointly owned by his wife Josephine, William's 160 is now jointly owned with his wife Susan, and Donovan has inherited the home farm from Mirabeau, and now jointly owns it with his wife Ramona.
Platte Township - The Fort Farm Island place in Platte Township is now owned and occupied by John’s son Donald and his family, as Jennie died in 1970. Frank’s sons Lyman and William have now also acquired 122 and 58 acre parcels respectively nearby.
Shelton Township - Lyman died in 1975. His sons Jim and Denton and their families now live on his home place in separate houses. Donovan still lives on the Nutter home place, and his son Van’s family also lives there, in a separate house. Harold still lives on his smaller acreage southeast of the Nutter home place, and his son Richard’s family also lives there, in a separate house.

Shelton Township - Lyman’s sons Jim and Denton still live on their home place. Now a Kathy Nutter shows up, on property never before owned by the Nutters. She is possibly the daughter of Lyman’s brother William.
Platte Township - Donald died in 1980, and John Nutter’s home on Fort Farm Island is no longer owned by the family. However, Lyman’s son Nordon Nutter now shows up, living on the parcel that was once owned by Lyman. Perhaps it never left the family, although no Nutter lived there until Nordon showed up.
Shelton Township - A bit confusing. Apparently Donovan still owns the home place, but no longer lives there. Since Donovan died in 1989, this must be his son Van Donovan. Harold’s son Richard died in 1996. He didn’t have a son named Richard, so the person living on the property is certainly not Richard, as shown. In any case, Richard’s wife Grace still owned a 50 acre parcel of Harold’s original acreage. Maybe she was still living there. It appears that both Jim and Denten Nutter still live on the property they inherited from Lyman, but they no longer own the property.
Platte Township - Norden still lives on Fort Farm Island.
Shelton Township - A Dick Nutter still lives on Richard Nutter’s property. Obviously not Richard, and it isn’t one of his sons or grandsons, since he had only daughters. Perhaps it is a son of his brother John Ronald Nutter. Jim and Denton still live where they did in the past. No Nutter lives on the old home place.
Platte Township - A Michael Nutter now lives where Norden Nutter lived. Since apparently Norden had no children of his own, perhaps he adopted those of his wife Ruth, and they took his last name.
