Robert Stinson Hogg, (known as "Stinson"), son of George Hogg, was born around 1838 in Butler County, PA. The 1850 census shows Stinson, then age 12, living with his Aunt Margaret (Hogg) Atwell, then age 74. The 1860 census shows him at age 21 living in Jackson, Iowa, with his brother James. Stinson fought in the Civil War, as a member of Company "I", 31st Iowa Infantry, from 1861 to 1865.
Mary Jane Dutton, daughter of Russel B. and Mary Ann (McDonald) Dutton, was born March 22, 1849, in Jackson County, Iowa.
After mustering out of the army, Stinson and Mary were married, on July 4, 1867. Altogether they had 16 children (only 10 were still living in 1910):

Stinson died July 30, 1903, and is buried in the Willison Cemetary in Jackson County, Iowa. The 1910 census finds Mary, then age 61, as widowed, in Monmouth, Iowa, living in a rented home with her son Edison and daughter Clara. Ten years later, she is found living in Wyandotte County, Kansas, in the home of her daughter Annie, who had married Joseph Norton. Her son John William Hogg was also living there (listed as a clerk for the railroad). Mary died March 18, 1923, and is buried next to Stinson.
