Harley and Gertrude Meyer

Harley Meyer was born December 13, 1921, in Wellsburg, Iowa.

Gertrude Marie Leistikow, daughter of August and Rosine (Kreb) Leistikow was born in December 1922, in Bremer, Iowa.

Harley married Gertrude on August 4, 1943, and they had 2 children:

Judy Meyer Born in November, 1944, in Fort Meyers, Florida.
Harley W. Meyer Born in January 1947, in Waterloo, Iowa.

Harley died January 2, 1992.

Upon her father's death, Gertrude inherited a 'black box' which contained, among other things, documents confirming that her great grandfather Leopold Leistikow was the son of Christian and Dorothea Leistikow, and was not the son of Christian's brother Frederich as had previously been thought. The confusion arose from the fact that Leopold immigrated with three children of Frederich, and everyone assumed that he was their brother. The documents confirmed these were his cousins, not his siblings. The black box story was documented in 2015 from a phone conversation between June (Leistiko) Lundgren and Don Leistikow, grandson of Leopold's son Elmer via his son Herman.
