Herman and Mary (Bolte) Tiedt

Herman and Mary Tiedt - Wedding

Herman Johann Heinrich Tiedt, the son of Christian Johann Carl and Maria Christina Carolina (Spangenberg) Tiedt, was born on January 14, 1866, in Leyden Township, Cook County, Illinois .

Charlotte Marie Sophie "Mary" Bolte, was the daughter of Carl Friedrich Wilhelm and Charlotte Sophie Marie "Sophia" (Michel) Bolte, who lived at St. Annen Street in Stadthagen at the time of her birth. She was born on March 10, 1884, in Stadthagen, Schaumberg- Lippe, Germany. Her Godmother (or baptismal sponsor) was Auguste Michel (probably a sister of her mother Sophia Michel).

Mary's father, Carl Bolte, emigrated from Stadthagen to the USA at age 35, via Bremen and arrived in New York on July 11, 1885. His wife and daughter were not listed with him. However, according to the 1910 US census his wife Sophia also immigrated to the U.S. in 1885-1886, so she may have followed him with her daughter a little bit later.

The 1900 census notes that Mary could read, write, and speak English.

Herman and Mary married on December 27, 1900, in Dayton Township, Bremer County, Iowa, and they had 1 child:
